What does it mean to Touch Base with someone? To Catch Up with someone?

In part it means to share slices of life with people we care about. A more cynical view might mean that just as we keep track of our physical possessions, we also like to hold on to our people. Sites like Snapchat and Facebook allow us to share at least a fraction of the richness of our lives, but reductively, they can also be thought about as a way to ping those we know with are you still there? Or, are you still alive?

Panic Level is a simple Twitter algorithm to automate this process.

care_about:=
[celebrity: 1, 2, 3... ncel;
friend: 1, 2, 3... nfri;
family: 1, 2, 3... nfam;]
PING
i=1
j=1
panic_level=0
minutes=60
tweet @(care_about[i,j]) "are you still alive?"
if @reply="yes" then increment, else wait(minutes)
if @reply="yes" then increment, else panic_level=panic_level+1
